The Most Inspirational People
The most inspirational people are those genuinely seek to help and support others without anything to gain for themselves.
As humans we all possess moments of self-centredness, but it is clear that the aforementioned people have undergone spiritual work to bring them to a complete selfless service for others.
When I think of these types of people, I reminded of some the saints;
- The Act: He lived in a tiny, freezing monastic cell but spent up to 16 hours a day listening to the burdens of thousands of visitors.
- The Selflessness: Even while suffering from painful, terminal cancer, he refused to rest, famously stating that he would “rather die on his feet helping others than live comfortably.”
- The Act: Upon becoming the Archbishop of Constantinople, he immediately stripped the church palace of its luxurious, expensive decorations and sold them.
- The Selflessness: He used all the proceeds to build hospitals, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters, choosing to eat the simplest meals alone so that thousands of poor citizens could be fed.
- The Act: After transforming her life, she spent 47 years alone in the harsh Jordanian desert in total isolation, prayer, and fasting.
- The Selflessness: Her selflessness was an inward offering; she completely surrendered her physical desires, vanity, and comfort to dedicate her entire existence to repenting and praying for the peace of the whole world.
These inspiraitonal stories raise questions within that make us question if we are living our lives as God intended or simply succumbing to the comforts of modern day life.
